Andalusia arrives at Fruit Logistica with a new record in agri-food exports

From 5 to 7 April, 50 Andalusian agribusiness companies, 47 to be precise, will be taking part in Fruit Logistica, the most important fruit and vegetable fair on the international scene, which is being held in Berlin. Andalusia is attending this event with a new record of agri-food exports in January compared to the same month in 2021.

In the first month of 2022, Andalusia exported agri-food products worth 1,129 million euros, which is 11.5% more than in January of the previous year and the best record in the historical series for the first month of the year. Almeria once again leads the ranking with a turnover of 476 million euros in January, 9.7% more than in the same month of 2021.

Regarding foreign sales in the fruit and vegetable sector, this sector has exported Andalusian products worth 687 million euros, 5.7% more. Almeria, with 467 million euros (+9.5%), represents 68% of the value of fruit and vegetables exported by Andalusia.

In the ranking of Andalusian fruit and vegetable products, pepper repeats in January as the most sold in foreign trade for an amount of 137 million euros, 2.1% more than in the same month of 2021, followed by cucumber, with 116 million euros and a more than a remarkable increase of 19.7%, and tomato, with 104 million euros, 12.9% more. Also of note, in fourth and fifth position, respectively, are courgettes, with an export turnover in January from Andalusia of 50 million euros, 5.6% more than in January 2021, as well as strawberries, with 38 million euros, 16.3% more.

In terms of destination markets for Andalusian fruit and vegetables, Germany was once again the main importer with purchases worth 201 million euros in January, 5.3% more than in the same month last year. It is followed by the United Kingdom, with 98 million euros and an increase in the same comparative period, despite Brexit, of 8.7%. It is followed in the ranking by France, with 89 million euros; the Netherlands, with 87 million euros and Poland, with 35 million euros.

Of the 47 companies from the Andalusian fruit and vegetable sector attending Fruit Logistica 2022, 34 are attending the international exhibition with the support of the Andalusian Regional Government and another 13 companies are travelling to Messe Berlin independently.
