Andalusia reaches 245,197 registered companies and now exceeds pre-pandemic figures

In October of this year, Andalusia has exceeded the number of companies registered with the Social Security corresponding to the pre-pandemic period by adding 245,197 entities, compared to the 241,130 registered in the same month of 2019. These data have been provided by the latest data from the IECA (Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia).

In October this year, the number of signatures exceeded those of the same month in 2020 by 6,105, which represents a year-on-year growth of 2.6%, slightly above that of Spain as a whole (2.5%). This behaviour contrasts with what happened in the previous economic crisis, in which the number of Andalusian companies suffered six consecutive years of declines, with falls also higher than those observed in Spain as a whole.

Considering the number of workers, there has been a year-on-year increase of 5.5% for Andalusia as a whole in October 2021. Considering the size, the largest relative increase in the number of companies is in those with 250 or more workers, with 8.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, and the smallest in the 1 to 2 workers, with 1.4%. However, in absolute terms, the largest increase was in the 1 to 2 worker bracket, with 1,813 more firms than in the same month of the previous year.

By sector of activity, the sharpest increases occurred in the sectors of Arts, entertainment and recreation (9.0%), Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (7.4%) and Information and communications (7.1%). On the other hand, the segments that decreased concerning the same month of the previous year were Activities of households as employers of domestic personnel and as producers of goods and services for own use (-3.1%) and Agriculture, livestock, forestry, and fishing (-0.9%).

According to these data, Andalusia is among the eight regions in Spain with a positive balance in terms of attracting company headquarters so far in 2021. On the other hand, the flight of business entities in Catalonia stands out, with 741 company headquarters moving to other territories, presenting a negative balance of 245.
