Andalusia’s economy grows by 3.1% year-on-year in the third quarter

The Andalusian economy grew by 3.1% in the third quarter of this year concerning the same period of the previous year, four-tenths of a percentage point higher than the estimate for the national economy as a whole, which stands at 2.7%, according to the advance of GDP made by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), which reports to the Regional Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities. This growth in the third quarter is explained by the good performance of the services sector as a whole.

The Industrial Turnover Index in Andalusia increased by 30.1% year-on-year in August, six points more than in the previous month and almost double that at the national level (17.1%), making six consecutive months of increase. This is the result of the ‘Weekly Economic Observatory of the Andalusian Regional Government’ presented by the Regional Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge, and Universities to the Governing Council.

The number of registered companies in August 2021 in Andalusia amounted to 235,477, registering a growth of 2.1% compared to the same month in 2020. This is equivalent to 4,865 more entities. Andalusian exports to the Asian continent reached the figure of 1,607 million euros in the first six months of 2021, which represents an increase of 22.8% over the same period last year, according to Extenda data. In turn, these data reflect a clear sign of recovery, by practically equalling the export figures of the first half of 2019, the period before the pandemic, when they reached 1,623 million euros.

Andalusia recorded a new record for meat product exports in the first half of 2021 by reaching 263 million, the highest figure achieved by the community for this period since there have been comparable records (1995), thanks to a 13.9% increase in sales compared to the first half of 2020, benefiting all Andalusian provinces and 16 of its first 20 foreign markets. ‘Andalucía Open Future’ exceeds 200 accelerated start-ups

Since its launch in 2014, ‘Andalucía Open Future’ has promoted more than 200 startups in its acceleration programme for high-performance companies and has become one of the benchmark initiatives to support technological entrepreneurship in the region. This programme, led by the Regional Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities, and Telefónica, with the collaboration of the city councils of Malaga, Almeria, and Cordoba, has incorporated 24 companies made up of 164 entrepreneurs in the acceleration spaces of El Cubo (Seville), La Farola (Malaga), El Cable (Almeria) and El Patio (Cordoba) in 2021.
