Spanish national team draws against Greece in Granada

The Spanish National Football Team started this past Thursday 25th March the qualifying phase for the Qatar World Cup to be held in December 2022. The Spanish team made their debut against Greece at the Estadio de los Cármenes in Granada, Andalusia. But Luis Enrique’s team were held to a 1-1 draw by Greece.

Spanish national team faced the match against Greece with the optimism of starting the World Cup qualifiers with a victory. And the match started well. Marcos Llorente at right-back was the big novelty in a starting eleven with Eric García at centre-back, Canales in the middle and Morata up front. Juventus striker Alvaro Morata himself scored the first goal in the 33rd minute. Koke played him a pinpoint pass from the edge of the area and the striker first controlled the ball with his chest, turned the ball over and left-footed it into the back of the net. Spain dominated, without much depth but ahead on the scoreboard.

But in the second half the game went wrong for the Spanish national team. Iñigo Martínez, who had come on in the second half for Sergio Ramos, committed a silly penalty when clearing a ball. Bakasetas made no mistake from the spot and beat Unai Simón. From then on, Luis Enrique’s Spain were dominated without any clear-cut chances for a team that did not look like a great side. A worrying setback for Spain as they head towards the World Cup in Qatar.

On the other hand, two Andalusians played for the Spanish national team. Two from Seville. Sergio Ramos, captain and Spain legend, with 178 caps to his name. The other, a debutant. Bryan Gil, 20 years old. A very skilful player, on loan from Sevilla FC at Eibar.
