The Andalusian agri-food sector strengthens its business in Japan by taking part in the Foodex trade fair

The Government of Andalusia has promoted Andalusia’s participation in the Foodex Japan 2023 fair this March, the main agri-food fair in Japan, the second largest Asian market for Andalusia’s food and beverages, after China, with 164 million euros exported in 2022. The event, which is considered the most important in the Asia-Pacific region, was held from 7 to 10 March at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center.

Research, technological development, and innovation accounted for a large part of the expenditure executed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in Andalusia in 2021, with a total of more than 293 million euros. Together with these data, it has been achieved that within the framework of the ERDF Operational Programme, the implementation of these funds has been very prominent in the promotion of research and innovation, in improving the competitiveness of SMEs, in initiatives to promote a low-carbon economy in all sectors and in promoting sustainable transport.

The 4th of December has been since 1977 a symbolic date for andalusism due to the historic demonstrations that took place all over Andalusia in 1977 claiming for the autonomy of the region. That day where almost two million of citizens took the streets peacefully ended tragically in Malaga as a young worker, Manuel José García Caparrós, was shot dead after the police intervention. More than forty years later, the Andalusian government has given official recognition to that historic moment declaring the date as ‘Andalusian flag day’ for its importance in the later approval of Andalusia’s statute of autonomy.
