An alliance has been signed to improve the competitiveness of Andalusian olive oil

The Regional Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Carmen Crespo, as president of the Fundación del Olivar, and the president of the Interprofessional Organisation of Spanish Olive Oil, Pedro Barato, have signed this week in Madrid a pioneering cooperation framework agreement to improve innovation and thus gain competitiveness in the markets.

This collaboration agreement includes two main objectives. On the one hand, the development of research, innovation, and technology transfer projects related to the sector, the improvement of quality, authenticity, and the characterisation of oils. On the other hand, to take advantage of the synergies between the operational groups Sensolive_Oil and Interpanel, Sistema de Referencia y Armonización de Paneles de Cata’, to collaborate in the exchange of information and materials, as well as to propose new applications that improve the scope and functionalities of the same. These two complementary projects are now entering a new phase with the challenge of offering tools that will help to further improve the quality of oils, speed up the classification process and eliminate uncertainties to improve legal certainty for operators.

In the first four months of 2021, extra virgin olive oil is once again the most exported Andalusian product with 540 million euros (+22%).
